It was in April, 1911, that I first heard of Christian Science, at a time when I was lying sick in bed and did not know what to do to obtain relief. My nerves were so greatly affected that I was hardly able to stand upright. In addition to this I had stomach cramps, which appeared at intervals with such severity that I was compelled to remain in bed after each attack. I was thin and ansemic and much below normal weight. We consulted many doctors and specialists, but all in vain; every remedy afforded only temporary relief. Life would have been a burden had it not been for my dear husband and three children, who did all in their power to make me happy.
I prayed to God to give me health, and my prayer was heard. After my husband and I had read a copy of the Herold, which my sister procured from the library in Zurich, we at once believed in Christian Science. He went to my sister in Meilen the following day to inquire about this teaching, and how joyful I was when he came home with a still firmer faith in it. We read the Herold diligently and immediately wrote to a practitioner requesting help. Within a fortnight I traveled to Meilen alone, and from there went to Zurich to the practitioner, who explained the truth to me; namely, that divine Love governs man and that God, good, provides him with every necessity. I very soon lost all fear, had no thought of what I was eating, and in another fortnight went home to my loved ones healed. My husband and I then proceeded to study the writings of Christian Science with great assiduity. One year later I had an attack which again confined me to my bed, but through the untiring efforts of the practitioner and my loved ones at home this attack was overcome very soon, and I have not suffered from the trouble since.
I cannot find words adequate to express my thankfulness to God, the creator of all good, who enabled Mrs. Eddy to discover the Christianity taught by Jesus. On this occasion I wish to remind all of the words of the twenty-third and ninety-first psalms. In these psalms I have always found a rich store of comfort and strength. —Waldstatt, Ct.
