Christian Science was presented to me at a time when I was suffering from melancholia and an extreme case of anæmia. I was instantaneously healed of a desire to die, by the reading of Science and Health, where Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 426): "When it is learned that disease cannot destroy life, and that mortals are not saved from sin or sickness by death, this understanding will quicken into newness of life. It will master either a desire to die or a dread of the grave, and thus destroy the great fear that besets mortal existence."
Other troubles yielded slowly, but, as I persevered in my studies of the Bible and the textbook, and gained a fuller understanding of Mind and its idea, I began to express health and happiness. I was discouraged many times but I now rejoice that I have been able to prove the truth of our Master's saying, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I have been freed from all sense of worry and despondency and each day a better realization of peace and joy is unfolding to me.
Although an active worker in a denominational church for many years, I received, very little comfort or support through my reading of the Bible; now through the study of Science and Health my prayers are no longer "to the unknown God" whom we "ignorantly worship," but I know that I have an ever present Principle, always at hand, the understanding of which can be used and applied to every problem.
