It is four and a half years since, not without some trembling. I threw away medicine and destroyed prescriptions, one of the latter being a lotion for daily use which had been used with the briefest possible intermissions for nearly twenty years. I remember as I destroyed the last traces by which it might have been recoverable that the thought of such a thing occurring by accident had once made me cold with fear. I have never regretted the repudiation.
Twice in these years, through the unfailing help of a practitioner, I was healed within an hour on the appeal by telephone for treatment, in the first instance of excruciating sciatic pain, in the second of lung trouble of a very serious nature. Before I knew of Christian Science I used to spend the winter months having cold after cold and frequent attacks of sore throat. I saw a doctor and took medicine, but only the coming of summer ended these woes. Now I hardly ever have a sore throat, and the last that I remember was overcome in three days. Wet shoes and stockings in the old days appeared to cause a variety of troubles as well as colds; now in more instances than I can mention, a realization of the truth that causation is never in matter, has prevented any ill effects from untoward conditions of this kind.
