Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science has healed me...

From the June 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has healed me of infidelity. When a boy, my teaching in matters pertaining to religion was under a parent who did not believe in the Bible and who had secured all of the literature possible to prove his position. This literature was brought to my attention constantly, and it became habitual for me to refer to religious people as those who were unable to think for themselves and therefore were dupes of clergymen. One particular argument which caused me to continue an agnostic after manhood was the inconsistency of people believing that there was a God who had created all and had blessed it as not only good, but very good, and had then turned into this creation such a thing as a devil. Fortunately my parent had been strictly moral and had taught that this was religion enough for me; therefore it was a desire to do right which finally led me to investigate Christian Science.

By reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, my wife was healed of a disease the doctors had failed to heal, and she invited me to read the book. After I commenced to read, the opportunity was afforded me to attend a lecture on Christian Science, following which a more thorough investigation was carried on, until it led me into a belief of the truth of Christian Science. This belief was strong enough to keep me reading the Lesson-Sermons and attending church. I became a member of a branch church and of The Mother Church, and had class instruction; but upon every occasion where a problem concerned myself, it was attended with doubt, and many times with disappointment.

This seeming state of things continued for several years, but the time came when the truth needed to be demonstrated in my own experience, or else I would have to discontinue the study of Christian Science. The problem which seemed to confront me was financial; my business was swept away in a few months, for I lost my ability to sell the goods, which formerly had been the secret of my success. Then an attack of inflammatory rheumatism came, and it seemed that all that had been done before was of no avail. It was at this point that a testimony in a Wednesday evening meeting gave me sufficient courage to attempt once more to glean the truth from the textbook. The testimony was given in such a convincing manner, and the experience had been so much more severe than my own, that I was somewhat ashamed that I had doubted.
