I desire to give my testimony in...

From the July 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I desire to give my testimony in order that God may be glorified, that those seeking Christian Science may be strengthened, and that I may express my gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered the divine law of being and founded a church, in the midst of "a wicked and perverse generation," to shelter and protect those who are striving to walk in the footsteps of the Master, Christ Jesus.

For many years I seldom knew a day without pain. Loving friends, physicians, and a famous surgeon, all tried to correct the many diseases that claimed me as a victim. All attempts failed. While I was traveling in the central west of the United States all the seeming anxieties, troubles, and diseases that were making life a burden seemed to gather in one black cloud, from which there apparently was no escape. Christian Science cleared away the darkness, and the work of replacing wrong thoughts with right thoughts began. I had heard of Christian Science, but as I was not interested in a new religion and could not in my ignorance believe that physical healing was possible here and now, I gave no heed to the subject. Divine Love met my need, for I met a loving disciple of Christ who explained to me that Christian Science teaches mankind the true idea of Love and that Christ has never left the earth, and therefore it is possible here and now to do the works of Jesus.

Under the guidance of this loving disciple I began the study of the Christian Science Lesson-Sermons. The great joy that came as I began to know God aright and see man as His perfect idea, words cannot express; only the earnest student of Christian Science knows. After three days' study I awoke in the night to find myself in the grasp of malarial fever, the worst attack I had ever experienced. The first thought was, Call a physician; the second, Call a practitioner; the third, Call the loving disciple who told you about the Christ. Then came the question: Whom have you always sought and whom are you truly seeking? and the answer was: God, and He is present. Then I found myself well, and with great rejoicing arose and declared my gratitude to the loving Father who had healed me.
