In May, 1919, I was stricken severely with inflammation of the lining of the middle ear. Two operations were performed by a specialist, but the ear became more sensitive constantly and the pains shot through the entire head. Even after two months' treatment the condition remained the same. At this time a dear acquaintance told me of Christian Science. She mentioned especially a testimony which she had heard given at a Wednesday evening meeting the preceding night, also the healing of her husband, who had been very sickly for years. Up to that time Christian Science had been unfamiliar to me; but now I questioned her more in regard to this teaching, for after my dear mother had passed on after an operation of this kind, and my daughter required four months to recover from an operation for the same thing in 1915, I was so discouraged and desperate that I would have grasped at any straw presented.
My acquaintance complied with my request to go with me to visit a practitioner, who told of Christian Science in a way that inspired so much confidence that I requested her to stand by me in my need, which she did. Through her faithful work I was able to endure the following terrible days and nights, and gradually my condition improved. My hearing, which had suffered considerably, has been completely restored for some time, and the troublesome noises have also entirely disappeared. Owing to the fact that my healing was not instantaneous, I was forced to place my entire confidence in God.
Some time ago I was suddenly seized with cramplike pains in the region of the stomach. These spread to the back, and came with such violence that I was compelled to lie down during their frequent recurrences. As my own work in Christian Science did not help, I requested the practitioner to aid me. After several days the pains diminished and soon vanished completely. I thank God with my whole heart that He has so wonderfully freed me from sickness, and owe gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for giving us Christian Science.
