Eight years ago I took up the study of Christian Science hoping that I might help a dear one who at that time was struggling to know the truth. I was in great need of Science myself, but it did not occur to me that I might derive any help from it. My only thought was for the one who seemed unable to understand Christian Science and yet felt that his healing was beyond airy material means. After I had been reading the textbook for a few weeks, and going to a practitioner regularly to ask questions that were constantly arising, I discovered that I was no longer wearing my glasses. As eye specialists had told me that my eyes were in very bad condition, and I had used glasses for ten years, this seemed very wonderful to me. On page 586 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy defines eyes as "spiritual discernment,—not material but mental." I had not read this definition when my eyes were healed, but later when I came upon it I could see that the healing had been a result of spiritual awakening.
For several months I studied diligently, and had so many proofs of God's power that I became thoroughly convinced that Christian Science is the truth. At first I got the idea that I had reached the goal in Science, that I would never be sick again, would have nothing unpleasant enter my life, and that living would be an easy matter; but I soon learned that Christian Scientists did sometimes become sick, that problems of some kind were quite often presenting themselves, and this was a disappointment and hard to understand, until it dawned upon me that God did not keep Daniel from being cast into the lions' den, but he protected him through this seeming danger and brought him forth safe. This revelation has been a wonderful help to me, and I have had ample proof of God's protection and His deliverance from sickness and pain. Among the physical ailments of which I have been healed are chronic tonsillitis, sprained ankle, headaches, grippe, and pneumonia. My little daughter also has had many beautiful healings including the overcoming of colds, earache, measles, dysentery, and influenza.
By understanding God to be the source of all supply I have been healed of a severe claim of limitation. By knowing the law of supply I have been able to handle business matters successfully when to material sense it seemed impossible, and this law has been the means of placing me in good positions and providing pleasant living conditions. Thus I am learning daily that no matter what the problem calls itself, whether it be sickness, pain, sorrow, epidemics, injustice, tyranny, limitation, sick business, or what not, the application of Science gives the correct solution.— Minneapolis, Minn.
