Testimonies of Healing

I desire to express my gratitude...

From the August 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I desire to express my gratitude to the great Giver of all good, for the manifold blessings that have come into my life since I took up the study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Christian Science was first introduced to me about ten years ago, but on reading the textbook I failed to understand it, and returned it to the library without apparently receiving any benefit. Six years after this a friend and colleague of mine, being a fellow worker in the Congregational church of which we were both members, invited me to attend a Christian Science testimony meeting on the following Wednesday, which I consented to do. I was so impressed with the testimonies that I determined to make a further investigation of the teachings of Christian Science. Many visits were paid by me to the Christian Science reading room in this city, where I was enabled to study the textbook and other Christian Science literature. I feel grateful to the librarians who guided my faltering footsteps and helped me over many a boulder. After studying the literature for about six weeks and attending the testimony meetings week by week it occurred to me to test the healing power of the truth for myself. From boyhood I had suffered from an acute form of ulcerated mouth, and at the time when I commenced to attend the Christian Science testimony meetings was daily using alum for this particular condition, but feeling that to give Christian Science a fair test I must dispense with this material remedy I decided to give it up and rely wholly on the truth, with the result that instant relief was obtained.

For years I had been troubled periodically with partial deafness and head noises. Some months ago I applied to a Christian Science practitioner for help who, after treating me for a few days, told me to make my own demonstration. In about a fortnight after this the trouble disappeared from one ear but became accentuated in the other. For some weeks I grappled with the error, holding to God as Spirit and man as having perfect spiritual understanding, and each morning read the Lesson-Sermon with my wife, until one day I became conscious of the fact that I was able to hear perfectly and the noises in my head had disappeared. These have been perfect healings, for which I am truly grateful, but the spiritual uplift experienced by me made me feel more grateful than words can express. Biliousness, toothache, rheumatism, as well as other ailments, have been overcome, sometimes by the help of a practitioner and at other times by putting into practice the understanding gained by the study of the Christian Science textbook. Without treatment but simply by reading the Lesson-Sermons daily my wife has recently been healed of fallen arches. She had previously worn padded boots for a period of twenty years.

We are very grateful for the literature daily, weekly, and monthly. The Christian Science Monitor is the only daily newspaper which is regularly read by me. We are indeed truly grateful to our loving Father-Mother God, and to Jesus the Christ, who is the Way-shower, and to Mrs. Eddy for that wonderful textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."—
