Sixteen years ago I was given the opportunity to become a Christian Scientist, but, while much in need of healing, my thoughts were so full of criticism, especially toward Mrs. Eddy, that after reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and taking a few treatments, I rejected it with scorn. Six years ago I again sought Christian Science treatment and was cured in a few weeks of chronic indigestion, constipation, colitis, enlarged liver, and extreme nervousness. I had consulted over a dozen physicians in America and one in London and finally an authority on such diseases in Switzerland. Each time I was slightly improved but always relapsed into my former condition. These treatments (some of them very painful) were followed faithfully and patiently and left me little time or money for anything else. I dieted, was inoculated, used electricity in several forms, took different kinds of baths, in fact did about everything but get well.
I have not taken one drop of medicine in over six years, make no study of foods as formerly, and am absolutely free from indigestion of any sort. All my family have been wonderfully benefited and blessed by Christian Science. The daily Lesson-Sermons are the greatest help to me, and the twenty-third psalm is my daily bread. My son loves his Sunday school. He is ten years old and has never said one cross or impatient word to me, so governed is he by Love. My whole outlook on life has completely changed since my healing and although I still have many faults to overcome, this beautiful religion of Christ Jesus, practiced, has given me great courage and a charity that I had not possessed. I now give God the credit for all of my blessings. In twenty years I had not memorized a single line, but since coming into Science have learned to speak, read, and write a foreign language, of which I knew absolutely nothing before.
I earnestly thank God, and my gratitude goes out to our beloved Christ Jesus, to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to the faithful practitioner. I trust this testimony may cheer some one, as I have so many times been cheered and helped by reading the testimonies of others.— New York, N. Y.
