The efficacy of Christian Science to heal disease was first demonstrated to me in an instantaneous healing of appendicitis. For a number of years following, many benefits were received from a knowledge of Truth. Then arose a condition which might have seemed trivial to many, but because the physical is the manifestation of the mental, I knew the condition resulted from error in thought and I sought its correction. Ugly, blemishing warts appeared on one thumb, seeming to be tumorous in nature, until the thumb was twice its normal size.
After three and a half years had gone by, one day in talking over the telephone to a friend, a clear worker in the truth, on a subject in no way apparently pertaining to physical healing, a fear was uncovered which was seen to date back over many years. Great joy was felt and gratitude expressed for the uncovering. Then two days of constant rejoicing and study were spent with the Concordance and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I read all the references which pertained to fear, and when at the end of this study the thumb was a again remembered, great was my joy to find the warts fast disappearing. After a few weeks the healing was complete; the nail, which had failed to adhere, grew perfectly. Truth had reduced error to its native nothingness. Blessings, sought for years, poured into experience as fear vanished. Fear is indeed a false belief. Christian Science teaches that there are not two powers, but just one, God, good, and this truth uncovers fear and destroys it, and its seeming effects.
Although we desire always to heal quickly, yet I am grateful to God for the hope we have through the understanding of Science to work on and on, if need be, until the healing comes, which it surely will, if we faint not and "be not weary in well doing." Words are indeed a poor expression of our love to God for the revelation of Truth through Christ Jesus, the master Metaphysician, and again in our own time through our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.—Chicago, Ill.
