The reading of a testimony in a recent copy of The Christian Science Journal awakened me to my duty, also to my privilege, of testifying to what Christian Science has brought into my life. Christian Science has given me the true concept of God, and if I could testify to nothing more I have found that it is this true concept which enables me to prove that nothing else is but God and His idea. I find the unfoldment of this understanding all that is necessary to prove completeness where before there seemed a lack. When Christian Science came into my life it found me with little faith in God. I had been taught from childhood to believe in God as a loving Father, and in the efficacy of prayer, but when I saw so much around me that was not consistent with this teaching since God did not even seem to me to manifest the love of a human parent, I found myself mentally rebelling against such a concept. I could see no way of working out my salvation with it, and I was fast becoming indifferent to prayer when Christian Science came to me with its loving message.
The healing of an injury to the spine, resulting from an accident, came while I was studying the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. As I look back over that experience I attribute my rapid healing to the fact that I was not thinking about the physical condition. There was no anxiety or doubt as to whether or not I was going to receive my healing; I was so eager to find out what the teachings of Christian Science are that I seemed to lose sight of the physical condition. I was gaining a truer concept of God and had found that it is lack of spiritual understanding that is the cause of all discord,—whether mental, moral, or physical.
I was indeed grateful to be freed from pain and suffering, but my greatest joy came when I knew God as Principle, for I then had a right starting point from which to work, and I saw that the demonstration of my understanding of Principle is true prayer. I realized that adherence to the truth as it is made clear to us through the study of all of Mrs. Eddy's writings frees us from the bondage of so-called material laws and conditions, and it is such a joy to know that every problem that comes up is but another opportunity to prove that its only solution lies in working it out according to Principle.—Reno, Nevada.
