Testimonies of Healing

From the February 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I can never express in words the gratitude I feel for the understanding of God which I have gained through the study of Christian Science. Many are the blessings which have come to me and mine through this understanding. I had been told by our family physician and also by the examining physician at a state sanitarium for tuberculosis, that all I could hope for was that a change of climate might prolong my life for a time, but I could never be healed. I spent a year in the West, coming back very little, if any, better than when I went. A few weeks after coming home, a neighbor, who saw my need, told me of the many healings experienced by her family through Christian Science. After talking with her on the subject several times, I decided to investigate it. I obtained the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the Quarterly, got out my Bible (which I had never been able to understand), and began studying. Almost from the first I became so absorbed and so happy in being able to understand something about the Bible that I thought very little about my physical ailments. A few weeks after taking up the study of Christian Science I passed through a great sorrow in the sudden passing on of my mother. It was then I asked for help from a practitioner, which was lovingly given, but though I was conscious of being much uplifted and helped in many ways by her faithful work, I did not realize my physical healing at that time. I continued to read and study and to pray for understanding, and as the truth unfolded to me the belief of tuberculosis gradually disappeared, as did a belief of an internal trouble of fifteen years' standing, which the doctor had told me I would have to endure all my life.

That was in 1914, and since that time I have not used a material remedy, either for myself or for my three children. The truth has fully met all our needs. Some of the healings which have been experienced in our family were of colds, tonsillitis, nervous trouble, influenza, and shingles. Pleurisy was overcome in one night by firmly knowing the truth of being. I am truly grateful to have found a religion which is practical, which can be lived and proved every day. I am grateful for the truth about God which Christian Science teaches,—a God who is Love, divine Principle, infinite Mind. I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for rediscovering this healing truth and for her great work in giving it to the world. My greatest desire is to know more of God and to gain a fuller understanding of His Christ.—
