Christian Science was presented to me several years before I recognized it as the truth. In my early study the reading of the testimonies was a great help to me, and I am sending these words of gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me with the hope that they may be a help to some one seeking the truth.
In the spring of 1911 I was healed of a very severe attack of tonsillitis, to which I had been subject once and sometimes twice during the year. Shortly after this healing I took treatments for a rash which frequently appeared on my hands. This condition was so severe that, in addition to the application of lotions, I was compelled to wear gloves for several weeks at a time. After several treatments in Christian Science I was healed, and there has been no return of this condition. For these healings I was grateful, or thought I was at the time, and felt anxious to know something of what had brought about the healing. I secured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and the Quarterly. I read Science and Health through, and said, What wonderful thoughts, and how beautifully written! The Quarterly lay in the pocket of the automobile till the end of the quarter. I got a second copy, and it lay in the same place. The following summer I went to another state to visit my mother and sister, and while there Christian Science was again presented to me, but there seemed to be no time for study, each day being spent in seeking material pleasures, until I returned home.
A day came when in seeming grief and deep sorrow I reached out to God for comfort and strength, and received it through Christian Science treatments. I was healed, and was glad that Mrs. Eddy has said: "Sorrow is the harbinger of joy" (Unity of Good, p. 57), and "Sorrow has its reward. It never leaves us where it found us" (Science and Health, p. 66). I have proved these statements to be true. I awakened to the realization that Christian Science is the truth about God and His creation. It is five years since this awakening came to me and I have never missed a day in going over the entire lesson from the Bible and Science and Health, as given to us in The Christian Science Quarterly.
