I began the study of Christian Science...

From the March 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I began the study of Christian Science about nine years ago, when I had help from a practitioner and was healed of a chronic bowel trouble. This trouble returned four times, but was met each time through Christian Science, and was overcome twice through my own understanding of this Science. Each time it returned I felt sad, but each time the truth became a little clearer to me, fear was destroyed, and the difficulty finally vanished. I rejoice that I had to overcome it, for otherwise I would probably not have grasped the truth so clearly. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 574), "The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares."

Last winter I became ill and telegraphed to a practitioner for help; then I called a doctor for a diagnosis, because if it were influenza I would have to keep my children out of school. He examined me and pronounced it to be that disease. I did not have any cough but he said I would have. I got along splendidly and did not have a cough or the usual aches. My help was all from God, through Christian Science. I am very grateful for the healing, but the joy of knowing the truth is more gratifying.—
