From my early teens up until the past seven or eight years, I had been troubled with chronic constipation. Every one knows what various other disorders arise from that, mainly chronic appendicitis, from which I suffered over two years. I think I had tried every kind of medicine, dieting, and various kinds of exercises, but nothing seemed to relieve the trouble. Finally, with the pain and soreness in my side constantly growing worse, I decided to have an operation. Following this I had a great deal of trouble with my eyes, which caused me to wear glasses for several years. Furthermore, I had the old bowel trouble just the same, and found I had to keep on taking medicine.
About two years later, on going to Los Angeles to live, my next door neighbor asked me if I wouldn't be willing to try Christian Science, as it could do me no harm anyway. I certainly was very willing to try anything besides medicine, so, with my husband's most willing consent, and my own desire, I sought a practitioner and purchased Science and Health. Of course I read lots and did much thinking—I had found the way. Within three weeks, and having had but three treatments, I needed no more medicine. That was several years ago; and at times, when the old trouble seemed to return, I knew that medicine wasn't needed. Also, I discarded my glasses four years ago, and never think of needing them.
