It is a great pleasure to testify to the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science. It found me a most harassed woman, suffering from a great sense of injustice and burdened by a belief of lack. The old religion meant little or nothing to me, as it could never explain the Scriptures to my satisfaction. After years of struggle with doubts and fears, and with very indifferent health, Christian Science came into my life with its tender lesson and healing balm.
My first reading of the "Preface" and chapter on "Prayer," in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, brought a great spiritual awakening. This influx of light freed me from several foolish and wasteful habits; then followed better health and greater happiness than I had ever before experienced. Truly my life was transformed. I realized for the first time that I was God's child, with my place to fill in the world, and my own work to do,—not just seemingly living at the mercy of circumstances.
This change of thought brought an awakened desire to correct and overcome a false sense of self, with its accompanying faults—pride, self-will, intolerance, and lack of obedience. These sins are disappearing by degrees, and are being replaced by true spiritual and healing qualities. It is a great joy to realize the omnipresence of divine Love in our efforts toward reform, knowing that Love alone supplies the needed strength to resist evil and to choose the good, thus enabling us to work out our own salvation.
