I wish to express my deep gratitude for all the benefits I have received since taking up the study of Christian Science. In October, 1899, my attention was first drawn to Christian Science, my mother having taken up the study as a last resort, for a chronic case of asthma of thirty years' standing, of which she was healed eventually by Christian Science. About this time also I had been healed of a tumor which had grown on my chest to a considerable extent. Christian Science treatment was received, and in about two weeks the tumor had entirely disappeared. At this time, however, I was not ready for the full acceptance of the truth.
My attention was again drawn to Christian Science by my mother in 1909; and, as my life had been rather fast in the previous ten years, I was quite ready to read the literature and to attend the services; but later on, through disobedience to the truth, I met with an accident, while in the performance of my duties as brakeman on the Southern Pacific Railroad, which necessitated amputation of one of my legs close to the body. Christian Science help was again sought and kindly given. In spite of fearful predictions I gained rapidly from this time on and my healing has been complete and permanent. I have also been healed of rheumatism, inflammation of the bladder in a very severe form, trouble with my fingers, profanity, tobacco habit in its different forms, drinking to excess, and gambling.
For all these healings I am truly grateful; but especially so for the better understanding of the Bible that Christian Science has given to me, which enables me, at least in a measure, to separate the wheat from the tares and so to start on my journey from sense to Soul, to work out my own salvation, as the Bible tells us, knowing as we do in truth that God gave man dominion. I am profoundly grateful to God, to the Christ, Truth, as taught in Christian Science, and to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy; also, to the kind practitioners and to all others who have helped me on my way.— Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
