Words cannot express my gratitude for Christian Science. For years I had been a semi-invalid. At the time Christian Science came into my life I was almost without hope, being a nervous wreck, supposedly left in that condition by an operation which I had undergone some years before. I had tried so many material remedies that when the physicians told me I would have to undergo another operation, I felt I would rather die. They diagnosed my case as fibroid tumor, internal abscesses, and chronic dyspepsia. All my husband could earn went for doctors and medicine; indeed, the outlook seemed dreary and almost hopeless.
At this point Christian Science was offered me, and I commenced reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I started reading more to please the friend who asked me to try Christian Science than hoping to receive any benefits therefrom. But before reading the entire first chapter on Prayer, I knew I had found the religion I had always wanted, even if I was not at once healed in body. I had formerly been a member of a so-called orthodox church, but was never wholly satisfied with its teachings, especially with the way we were taught to pray; and for several years before taking up the study of Christian Science I had not attended any church. The first evening I started reading Science and Health I read far into the night, and was eager to start the next day; and in a few days I noticed a decided improvement. I continued reading, striving earnestly to digest all I read; and before I had read the book through, the stomach trouble had disappeared. Then I decided to have treatment for the other troubles, so sought the help of a practitioner; and surely I was guided rightly. The practitioner so lovingly and patiently explained Christian Science and worked for me, that it was only a short time until I was entirely healed. I am now a healthy, happy woman instead of the sickly, irritable, fretful, complaining creature I was for years.
Some months after my healing, I met one of the physicians who had formerly attended me, and he stopped in amazement, saying he could not believe I was the same woman he had once treated. He asked who had treated me and where I had had the operation performed. I replied that there had been no surgical operation, and that the only treatments had been given by a Christian Science practitioner. He said he was truly glad to see me in such excellent health, a fact which he had really believed to be impossible.
