Testimonies of Healing

"The people that walked in darkness...

From the May 1923 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light." When a dear friend told me of the light that had shone for him through the revelation of Truth in Christian Science, I immediately became aware that a long-felt want in my own life had been supplied. I had always been keenly interested in religion, and was an enthusiastic church worker; but, as time went on, I felt I was not getting the help from my religion that I had expected, and I wondered why many favorite Bible promises were not fulfilled in my own experience. I was so convinced that my friend had found the truth which our great Way-shower, Christ Jesus, had promised would make us free, that I at once accepted it and set out to acquire a knowledge of it for myself. I was immediately freed from a great sense of worry and anxiety, and also from a good deal of fear that had been governing me.

When I learned that our Father-Mother God, divine Mind, is the source of all activity, and that of my own self I could do nothing, I was delivered from an extreme sense of fatigue that had held me in bondage for many years. I had also suffered from a severe stomach complaint. This seemed to leave me for a time, but later it appeared in a more severe form. As I seemed unable to overcome this, I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, and this was lovingly given. The healing was slow, and I had many weary days to wait for final deliverance, which, however, was eventually manifested in a complete healing. I can now look back with gratitude to that experience; for it was then that I applied myself more earnestly to the study of the Bible and our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. In this way I gained a new understanding of God as Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, and of the real man as God's image and reflection, inseparable from Him.

For these and many other blessings I am most grateful, and my desire is daily to become a clearer transparency for this great ''light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day."—
