Many years ago, when trouble and sorrow seemed my only companions, and life not worth living, Christian Science was presented to me by a dear relative. Little did I dream then that it would change my whole outlook on life, and make me happy; but through the years that have followed, I have proved what Paul says: "A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump." Fear and dread that accompanied me day and night, melted away; and I shall not forget the first ray of light from this blessed truth that shone into my consciousness: "There is nothing to fear. God is Love!" If it is only true, only lasting, I thought; it is all right to-day, but to-morrow it may be gone! But as each day came I found it was still with me,—something lasting, something true. Then came the tests of putting this truth into practice; and as time went on it was applied to every problem, and never failed.
One of our children cut his eyelid and brow. In spite of the suggestions against it, the wound healed the next day without any stitching. Another time this child fell off a fence and broke his collar bone. Christian Science was again faithfully applied, the bone knitting beautifully.
On another occasion, the youngest child was nearly drowned. He was brought home in an ambulance; but in spite of all the fears expressed (we live in a busy business center), I stood firmly on God's side. Two hours later we went, the child and I, to the distribution committee work; and no one there present was any the wiser, the child playing about as if nothing had happened. On other occasions the children have been helped through measles, scarlatina, mumps, burns (one child was very badly burned on the back), and accidents. Always the healings have been quick. I have ever endeavored to place the children in God's hands in times of trial, and in times of peace to know that they reflect His intelligence and wisdom. This has greatly helped them at school.
