In reading the many testimonies at the end of the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was convinced they must be true, or people would not write and subscribe to such statements. I was encouraged by them to pick up the book and read a few lines elsewhere in it. A sister-in-law who was visiting us, a student of Christian Science, told me people had been healed by just reading the textbook; and I decided to try. However, it seemed at that time to be a closed book to me.
Then one day my husband was suffering from an old difficulty. My sister told me he could be healed in Science, so we employed a practitioner; and in a short while he was healed. Eight years have passed, and there has been no return of the disease, which had troubled him all his life. The lifting of this seemingly heavy load from our shoulders proved to me that God is "a God at hand . . . and not a God afar off," and enabled me to overcome the habit of burning and cutting my fingers while about my work in the kitchen. I have been healed of stomach trouble, a very severe case of blood poisoning of the foot, and nervous distress, all these having been overcome in a short time by reading Science and Health. After being healed of the nervous trouble, I was very happy and contented, and experienced the truth of the statement in Proverbs, "When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet."
I am very thankful for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and the local Christian Science Society. I am thankful to God for this truth revealed to our age through the writings of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy; also for the many blessings received through the reading of the Christian Science literature.— McCook, Nebraska.
