Fourteen years ago Christian Science came into my life. I was lying in a nursing home, a suffering, diseased, and utterly discouraged woman, when I first heard of Christian Science. A clergyman brother told me that he had heard it could heal, because a few days before he had spoken to some one who had been healed by it. He asked me to get the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and to have a Christian Science practitioner.
I had suffered for years from a severa internal trouble, and operations had left me in a wretched condition mentally and physically. I had tried to take up my work again as a teacher after the last very severe operation, but had utterly broken down. My father was a clergyman, and we had been brought up in the church; but I had reached the point where my religion, materia medica, and material helps and comforts had all failed me. My healing under the ministration of Christian Science was, perhaps, slow; but it was very sure. The internal troubles cleared away; acute mental depression, nervous prostration, and insomnia gave place gradually to a calmer and more courageous consciousness; and I started out with confidence and resolution to learn my way into the kingdom of heaven.
I am deeply grateful for this tender, compassionate Christ-healing that comes to us in Christian Science, and have felt abundantly its wonderful comfort. I am grateful to God, the Giver of all good, and to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower. I am grateful also to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, for this great and priceless gift to humanity; and grateful to the kind practitioners and friends who have lovingly and patiently helped me along the way.—HArrogate, Yorkshire, England.
