Christian Science has brought me many blessings, and I am deeply grateful for them all; but the one for which I feel most thankful is the understanding I am gaining of God through the study of Christian Science; for it has given me a God I can understand and love and demonstrate in my daily life as divine Principle. The healing power of Christian Science has been demonstrated innumerable times to each member of my family, as well as to myself, and so-called medical laws have been broken. Through the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner, rheumatism of many years' standing was overcome; also measles, mumps, sore throat, fevers, influenza, and many other discordant conditions.
Having been the wife of a physician and druggist for more than twenty years, I was familiar with the symptoms of many diseases. One morning I awoke quite early with the most intense pain, and immediately realized I was suffering from appendicitis. My first thought was to telephone for help; but finding I was unable to rise, I lay down again, and tried to realize the truth as we are taught in Christian Science. The pain was almost unbearable, and I seemed to be losing consciousness when the thought came to me of Mrs. Eddy's declaration in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p.385),"Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." So I continued to try to realize this, as it certainly seemed my duty to get up and give my boys their breakfast at a certain time to enable them to go to their work as usual. Very soon all pain ceased, only a soreness remaining through the day. I was enabled to perform my duties for the family as usual, and by night was entirely free. The next day I put in a hard day's work cleaning house. There were no bad after effects from this condition, but I had a sense of joy and gratitude to God and to our dear Leader for showing us how to overcome such discordant conditions. Christian Science is showing me how to live the Golden Rule as well as to believe in it. It is teaching me many things that cannot be learned through a human sense of intelligence. I find it a practical, satisfying religion, as well as a healing Christianity; so that I am more grateful for Christian Science than for anything else, and I am striving to express my gratitude through right living and working in the Father's vineyard.
Christian Science is my greatest joy and comfort; for it not only sustains me at all times, but is an ever present assurance for right, whatever the condition may seem to be. I find by depending on absolute Science, and nothing else, that it never fails; it cannot fail; for Christian Science means God's law in operation; and it can operate in only one way, namely, for good.
