Testimonies of Healing

In 1920, when all seemed dark and...

From the May 1924 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In 1920, when all seemed dark and hopeless, the doctor told me it was no use giving me any more medicine, as it was doing me no good. He said I had acute bronchitis and that senile decay was in evidence. My wife being ill, I asked him to tell me the truth about her. He said she also had a progressive illness, so I went home very much cast down, since I thought the end was very near for both of us. We made our plans accordingly, sold our home, and went to live with our daughter, waiting patiently for the change.

One day my wife met a kind friend who told her Christian Science would be sure to do her good if she would go to church. Thank God, from the very hour we entered the church I have been a changed man. Old desires have left me and new ones taken their place. I did not know what God was, or what man was; but by the kind and loving help of a practitioner, I have been shown the way. For this I feel deeply grateful. From that time to the present I have not had one drop of medicine of any description. Christian Science meets all my daily needs. Since studying Christian Science I have had many beautiful healings. My wife has been healed of indigestion which she had had for over thirty years; also of chronic constipation.

While we are deeply grateful for these blessings, they are not the most important by any means. We both feel deeply grateful for the spiritual uplift that has come to us through reading and studying "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I have also been healed of tobacco smoking. I had been a smoker for about fifty years, and had made many fruitless attempts to give it up before coming to Science. I found that smoking is not included in the teaching of our Master, Christ Jesus, in fulfilling the law of God. No words of mine are adequate to express our gratitude for the many healings and loving-kindnesses that have been bestowed upon me and upon my wife since coming to Christian Science. I am indeed sincerely grateful.—
