Christian Science has been my only physician for years, whereas previously I took medicine every night for a form of indigestion. I am so thankful to God for sending me this healing truth; for Mrs. Eddy's unselfish, patient, persevering life midst hardship and persecution; and for all the Christian Science literature, which comes to us so regularly, meeting the need of people in all parts of the world.
Thousands to-day acknowledge that fear is largely responsible for much of the trouble in the world. These few lines are sent in deep gratitude for the overcoming of this enemy in many instances since I started the study of Christian Science, some years ago.
During the recent earthquake in Japan, I was staying in Kamakura with a Japanese family, students of Christian Science. While bathing alone in the sea on the morning of September 1, 1923, I was suddenly knocked down, without any warning. At once I declared, "God is All—omnipotent;" and such a sense of peace and joy came to me, with confidence in God's love and power for protection, that I was conscious of nothing else. I did not feel afraid at all, nor notice at first that houses and cliffs were falling all around; and I was able to join the family and escape from the tidal wave which came up almost immediately.
