I first heard of Christian Science about eight years ago. A sister was taking treatment for physical troubles and was reading the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had been suffering from rheumatism for about eleven years, and had tried all kinds of material means, such as home remedies, electric X-rays, and massage treatment; but they all failed. I started to read the textbook and the Lesson-Sermon. I was benefited greatly. My right hand was so weak at one time that I was not able to lift a piece of paper; but thanks be to God, for the truth has made me free. I can now do all kinds of work around the house. I can lift a bucket of coal with the hand which formerly was weak.
The healing for which I am most grateful is one I had several weeks ago. I had a sudden attack, and found I was unable to walk. My hands and legs were stiff. My sister affirmed that God is Life; she also told me to repeat the "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468). But I could do nothing for myself. I was not able to remember anything. So a practitioner was called by telephone and gave me an absent treatment. She commenced to treat me at seven o'clock, and before ten o'clock I was able to walk by myself. I had two more treatments on account of the fear held by a relative. I was healed after the first treatment, thanks to the kind practitioner, who led me to see that it was false belief I suffered from, and that God's idea is perfect. I hope this testimony will help some one to see the light that "shineth in darkness."
I am so thankful for the Lesson-Sermons and the periodicals. I could not get along without them. It is the happiest hour of the day when I can sit down and read. They supply the spiritual food we all need so much. I am grateful for the physical benefits received; but they are nothing compared to the spiritual enlightenment. I am thankful to God; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; and most grateful to Mrs. Eddy for revealing this beautiful healing and uplifting truth to mankind.— Chicago, Ill.
