My interest in Christian Science began when I was just a child, about twelve or fourteen years old; and I wish to express my gratitude for the many blessings received since that time. The realization seemed to come to me then that God was my only helper, and that Christian Science was the way. With money that I earned myself I bought the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, although none of my own family were interested in Christian Science. I kept the book and read a little in it at times; but I did not understand that it was through spiritual understanding that my help would come, and so did not take up the earnest study of it for several years. Finally, through sickness and suffering, I was forced to turn to something. I had tried materia medica, osteopathy, massage, and physical training. Oppressed with a great sense of the hopelessness of all these things, I turned earnestly to Christian Science and went to a practitioner for treatment. Although help has not always come quickly, I have received many healings, and am grateful for the understanding I have gained.
At the time I turned to Christian Science for help, it seemed that I would be forced to give up my work. I was suffering from great nervousness and the troubles which attend it. However, after turning to Christian Science I was able to keep on with my duties, and did close, steady office work for several years. I am finding more and more that my health is proportionate to the rejection of the claims of error and steadfast clinging to the truth.
I am also most grateful for class instruction. It was after this experience, and when I put into practice what I had been taught, that I gained the greatest sense of healing and freedom I had ever known.
