In the hope that I might receive relief from tuberculosis of the lungs through change of climate, my physician in Illinois advised my going West. My physical condition was such, however, that he thought it best for me to make the change gradually, so I spent a year in Kansas. At the end of that time my physician there said it would be useless for me to go on to Colorado, as I could live but a few months longer.
I returned to Illinois in June, 1899. Some friends had recently become interested in Christian Science and begged me to try it; and I consented to see a practitioner more to please them than from any hope of receiving benefit. The practitioner's explanations of the Bible were so satisfying and logical that I knew I had found the truth at last; and all sense of pain and mental depression left at once, although the cough did not entirely go until some months later.
About a year and a half after becoming interested in Christian Science, I married and went to live on a farm in Indiana. As I had never learned to do housework, the work on a farm presented quite a problem, especially as it seemed impossible to find any help willing to stay in the country; but I was able to do everything that was necessary. During the time we were in Indiana two daughters and a son were born. The physician stated that every condition was as normal as if no birth had taken place, and he acknowledged the efficacy of Christian Science healing. Since then Science has met every need of mine and of our children; and I am especially grateful for the understanding of the truth that has enabled me to overcome anxiety and fear for them.
