It was about twelve years ago that I received my first healing through the application of Christian Science. From a child I had seemed to be subject to sore throat, and at the time above referred to I had a most acute attack of this trouble, which culminated in quinsy. I had been confined to my room for a week or longer with a physician in attendance, and it seemed as if the end of physical endurance were reached on the morning that the physician lanced my throat and no relief resulted. The physician stated he was sorry, but he had lanced it too soon, and it would be necessary to wait a day or two longer, when he would lance it again.
I knew very little indeed of Christian Science, but I did know a Christian Scientist who had let his light shine, so I asked a member of my family to call him and ask him if he could help me. I remember so clearly his encouraging reply that God could, and that if I were willing to give up my medicine he would give me a treatment. I asked that he be told I would gladly give up the doctor's treatment as it had not helped me. From that moment I was wonderfully comforted mentally, and I fell into a most peaceful sleep. Whether I slept a half hour or an hour I do not know, but when I awakened I cried out joyfully, "I am healed!" I then arose and partook of food, the first solid food I had eaten for some time.
One of the remarkable features of this healing at that time was the almost instantaneous disappearance of the hard, swollen condition of the throat. It did not have to break, nor did it have to be lanced; it simply disappeared entirely while I slept. Since this healing I have had but one return of this difficulty, and it also was healed in Christian Science.
