TRUE LIFE

From the December 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

WHERE there is implanted in human consciousness a desire to know the truth of being and to live in accordance with it, the right understanding of Life is essential. Jesus declared, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." The conscious possession of the true life is necessary to permanent happiness and well-being.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy makes quite clear the wonderful and all-important revelation that God is Life or Mind, and that because God is infinite, Life or Mind is infinite. On page 551 she says: "Either Mind produces, or it is produced. If Mind is first, it cannot produce its opposite in quality and quantity, called matter. If matter is first, it cannot produce Mind. Like produces like." God, therefore, is the real Life of man. To know God and to reflect His will, or law, is the fullest possible function of all God's offspring; and the expressing of Godlike qualities is man's God-given work.

To know how this may be done is the demand of the earnest heart longing for the satisfaction of the consciousness of divine reality. If like produces like, God's will must be done all the time. One would never attribute to the earth the possibility that it could depart from its orbit. Human thinking to-day does not believe that the earth has an intelligence of its own. It is readily admitted that the earth is bound to submit to and be controlled by the laws governing it, which laws have kept it in its orbit, according to material history, for probably millions upon millions of years.
