For almost sixteen years before learning anything of Christian Science, I suffered from weak eyesight. For this whole period I wore glasses. For the last ten years of the time I was under the care of two eminent specialists, and for the last six years I had to put drops in my eyes twice a day. In 1918 one of these doctors, after a searching and very thorough examination of my eyes, told me that they were in a very serious condition, that I would always have to wear glasses, and that it would be only with the utmost care that I would be able to use my eyes at all.
Early in 1919 I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting at a Christian Science church for the first time, and it so impressed me that I went again and again. Finally, one of the members of the church very lovingly asked me if I would like to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. She lent me a copy, and I read it through. I was halfway through it the second time when one day, to my amazement and joy, I found, through a peculiar incident, that I was able to go without my glasses for several hours without the slightest ill effect. This was something I had not dared to do for sixteen years.
At this time I had but a very slight knowledge of all that I had read, and was full of wonder and curiosity,— hopeful, yet fearful that my hope might have no real foundation. At once I went to a practitioner for help; and in four treatments my eyes were completely healed. I put my glasses aside, and have never felt the slightest need for them since. I can read now to my heart's content with perfect comfort. It was in June, 1919, that I laid aside my glasses. I shall never cease to be grateful for this wonderful healing, not only because of the physical comfort, but because of the wonderful foundation it gave me upon which to build.
