BROAD-MINDEDNESS

From the September 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE Bible teaches the omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience of God, who is Mind. In other words, it affirms the allness, the infinitude, of divine Mind. Being all, divine Mind is, logically, unlimited and unrestricted in its every attribute and quality. Being infinite, divine Mind embraces whatever is knowable and understandable, and dispenses or reflects its ideas and thoughts universally and eternally. Thus do we see that in its highest or spiritual meaning broad-mindedness is the full, complete expression of divine intelligence, and can have to do only with what is truly good and Godlike. Thus do we behold the significance of genuine broad-mindedness in its Scriptural relationship, and comprehend its great importance in our daily work.

There never was more urgent need for broad-mindedness than there is to-day; and never were men and women more ready to respond naturally and beautifully to its practical application than they are at present. On every hand the opportunity to be broad and liberal in thought presents itself; while at the same time appropriate deeds as demonstrable proofs of this thinking are expected and demanded. A new era is dawning,—the era of the new heaven and the new earth,—a fact which means that the old, erroneous methods and ways of the world are being set aside and the kingdom of righteous activity is being established. Material beliefs of every name and nature are being broken up and destroyed, and the spiritual understanding of divine Mind, in all its infinite manifestations, is taking their place. In this manner God's promise, as voiced by Ezekiel, is being fulfilled: "I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him."

Because of its inexhaustible nature as the revelation of divine Mind, and its countless opportunities for good as the practical interpreter of Holy Writ, Christian Science is showing mankind how to become truly broad-minded, and how to act accordingly. Because of its clear, powerful vision of the truth, and its boundless scope in every line of worth-while accomplishment, Christian Science is convincing the world that the only way to happiness, success, and salvation is through the avenues of the one Mind,— through the broad, open verities of that spiritual intelligence which inspired and controlled the greatest man in history, Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and which also directed and upheld the most remarkable woman in history, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and the author of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Therefore, through this Science the might of Mind, unlimited and unrestrained, is in this present age bringing to human view the same kind of wonderful works of healing and regeneration which were performed in Bible days, and which Jesus declared could and should be done in any period by those who really understood and applied the power of this Mind.
