OMNIPRESENCE

From the September 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

MAN, being the image of his Maker, is the reflection of omnipresence, omniscience, and omnipotence; and Christian Science, the discovery of Mary Baker Eddy, is enabling Christians to apply intelligently and scientifically the understanding of the all-power, all-knowledge, and all-presence of God in their daily lives.

Most of us dwell with joy and gratitude on the thought of the omnipresence of God, without always connecting man with that omnipresence. Since man is reflection, he must be the reflection of the omnipresence as well as the omnipotence and omniscience of God. Thus we are able to understand how this truth can heal all sense of separation from those we love, because if man reflects omnipresence, there can be no going away into a far country. When we think of those not corporeally present, does our thought have to take a ticket for a train or a boat in order to reach them? No, indeed; we can think of those we love without any obstacle of time or space. When a patient is healed through absent treatment, is any difficulty presented by hundreds or even thousands of miles? No, because in treatment the omnipresence of divine Mind is realized. It is only when we descend in thought to think of ourselves as limited mortals that separation from our loved ones can seem real, and so cause us unhappiness. The mortal or carnal mind is not subject to the law of God, and therefore cannot enjoy the blessings of the immortal and spiritual; so that the old man with his thoughts of separation must be put off,—that is, these thoughts must be put out of consciousness, be displaced by the ideas of Truth, in order that the joys of immortal existence may be experienced.

Those whose dear ones have passed beyond mortal sight and touch can now and here, through spiritual understanding, experience the peace brought about by the realization that not the least expression of God ever has been, or ever can be, lost, since divine Mind and its manifestation are ever present. Those who have been healed in Christian Science of overwhelming grief, because of the passing of loved ones, testify that, while they do not see these loved ones with the eye of flesh, they have the inward discernment that they are one with those they still love because of the unity of Spirit, and that spiritual progression is bringing them to the day when the material senses will no longer be able to hide the individual ideas of the spiritual universe from them.
