It has been my experience to find the way into Christian Science strewn with obstacles, but with me all the time was a desire to be right; and this desire carried me along so that when the claims of hypnotism, spiritualism, theosophy, new-thought came into my life they made no lasting impression. After this phase had passed, the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was presented to me; but the truths it contains were so obscured by personal sense and falsities in my own thinking as to be well-nigh unrecognizable. But the leaven of Truth is ever at work; and after many struggles these various phases of error were seen to be not only false, but powerless. And now, as I look back, I see it is impossible to prevent the unfoldment of the glorious truths of Christian Science.
I have proved true every word of the hymn which begins,
"Holy Father, Thou hast taught us
We should live to Thee alone;
Year by year, Thy hand hath brought us
On through dangers oft unknown.
When we wandered, Thou hast found us;
When we doubted, sent us light;
Still Thine arm has been around us,
All our paths were in Thy sight."
