Testimonies of Healing

I want to tell the world how glad...

From the January 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I want to tell the world how glad and thankful I am for all that Christian Science has done for me. For years I took many kinds of medicine prescribed by kind and well-meaning physicians, all of which proved to be only temporary helps.

When Christian Science was brought into our home, nearly ten years ago, by a cousin we had never met before, I had just taken a series of hot salt baths and massages at a seaside hotel, under the advice of our family physician, who said I had "worn out" every kind of medicine that could be prescribed for nervous stomach trouble, from which I had suffered for more than fifteen years. Our cousin, who had been healed through Christian Science, lovingly asked me to try it. I did not know then what Christian Science was, other than that it was something that had healed many cases which had been given up as hopeless by medical doctors. I had been told by one eminent physician that there was nothing left for me but a surgical operation, and that such operation might leave me an invalid for life. Therefore Christian Science found me ready and willing (in spite of much adverse criticism) to try the remedy that had healed my cousin of inharmony, and brought her into health and happiness.

I visited a most kind practitioner, and after treatment procured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and some other Christian Science literature, and immediately laid aside all material remedies. Very shortly after this our family removed to an altitude of eight thousand feet above the sea, where it had been said I could not live; but I have been well and strong beyond my most sanguine expectations, and have accomplished laborious tasks that have caused friends and relatives to marvel. In the words of our dear Master, I can only say, "I can of mine own self do nothing," and as Paul says, "In him [God] we live, and move, and have our being."
