Since accepting Christian Science...

From the March 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Since accepting Christian Science as the truth about God and man, I have had many blessings. One of these was the healing of my eyes. When I was a child my family were told by one of the best oculists in New York city at that time that I would be blind by the time I was thirty, as the trouble was incurable. At intervals of from three to five years the glasses were changed, and each time the lenses were made stronger and the warning renewed.

When I took up the study of Christian Science, I had worn glasses for twenty-five years. As the truth unfolded to me I realized that man sees because God sees. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 486): "Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal. They cannot be lost. Their reality and immortality are in Spirit and understanding, not in matter,—hence their permanence." It came to me that in wearing the glasses I was denying the power of God to heal my eyes, so I took them off. At first there was some difficulty, but I was firm in my faith, knowing that God would care for me if I trusted Him. Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 199): "The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible. Exceptions only confirm this rule, proving that failure is occasioned by a too feeble faith."

The healing was slow, but permanent and complete; and I shall never cease to be grateful for the great growth and spiritual uplift gained through the experience. The healing of my eyes was a result of the study of the Bible and Science and Health.
