LIGHT!

From the March 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE comes to disheartened, tired humanity with its brow crowned with promise, bearing aloft the inextinguishable torch of spiritual understanding, by whose light may be interpreted the pitfalls of the past, and in whose radiance may be revealed the unsealed heights of the future. The truth of Christian Science is as a lens of powerful magnitude which can pierce the density of material sense and bring to light the otherwise undiscovered reality of existence.

Christ Jesus testified, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life;" and it follows, as a self-evident proposition, that the Christ Science is the exact knowledge of the divine law of light, divine intelligence. It is not, therefore, strange that the awakened spiritual perception, in the glow of this divine effulgence, should result in the healing of the blind. So did Isaiah prophesy of the Christ, who should be for "a light to the Gentiles" to "open the blind eyes." Not merely is the spiritual sense quickened, but so piercing is the radiance of the Christ-perception that the physical manifestation of healed sight often follows as a natural sequence.

In Genesis we read: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." We may, therefore, conclude that the unfolding of God's purpose comes about through the light of the Christ, Truth, which pierces all unreality, and with its white radiance reveals the verities of being.
