In the latter part of February, 1922, I contracted a severe cold, which seemed to settle in the head. There was a constant roaring, and at times I was completely deaf. Occasionally I could hear a few words, then would lapse into the same deafened condition. The depression of thought was very great, and life seemed unbearable. The sense of condemnation and embarrassment was acute; and although I had the comforting promises of Christian Science, the healing did not come. I attended the church services for three months without hearing anything, except the singing, which seemed very far away.
A Christian Science lecture was announced, and I decided to attend, feeling that healing was there. The first few moments I heard nothing; but, as we are taught to do in Christian Science, I kept declaring the truth and denying the evidence of the senses. I soon began to hear every word. The lecture was like a message straight from God, and so loving and powerful that I rejoiced in it greatly.
Coming home, I noticed that I could hear and mentioned the fact to others. We were filled with joy in the home at this proof of God's love. In the night when awakened I could hear the ticking of the clock for the first time in many years.
