Testimonies of Healing

In the year 1912 I was taken with...

From the April 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the year 1912 I was taken with sciatic rheumatism. I was healed of the rheumatism but something else set in; and I was always under medical care until I was healed through Christian Science. In 1913 I underwent a surgical operation, which left me in the same weakened condition as before, and I could not eat. Then eye trouble began, which resulted in severe headaches with blurs in front of my eyes and double vision. For this I received treatment from an eye specialist, but got no relief. Then the eye specialist told me it was beyond him to heal me. During all that time I could work very little, as I was a physical wreck.

In the month of May, 1918, as I was drinking some beer from a bottle I felt something sharp go down my throat. On examining the rest of the beer, I found in it a lot of very fine glass splinters. How much glass I swallowed I do not know; but by night I was in great pain. The next morning a physician was called and some of the glass passed from me. The physician called three times every day but could do very little for me. I was getting so weak that I could not walk two city blocks without taking a rest. I was taken to a specialist for blood tests and to hospitals for X-ray pictures, but without any results. I know that all the doctors tried their best to help me. Then a physician told my wife that there was no medicine that could help me; that I could live but a short time. I was without money or health, and we were in debt. The only money we had was what my wife could earn, and that was very little to support a family of three. My only desire was for the end to come.

In the month of May, 1919, I was so weak I could not even go out of the house. A friend came to see me and suggested Christian Science to me. As I had no money at all, I told him that I did not believe in Science; but my wife said I had all to gain and nothing to lose, so we got the practitioner that my friend recommended and I told her my circumstances. The practitioner took the case; and as I had no money to buy the books, she supplied all the books. In a few weeks I was able to take long walks and had gained in strength. I met the house physician on the street one day and he said, "Whatever you are doing, keep it up!"
