Several years ago Christian Science came into our family, finding us unhappy and dissatisfied, and my father in a bad condition physically. Through the help of a practitioner he was healed; and from the beginning of the treatment a change from gloom to a happier mental state came into the consciousness of each member of the family.
I did not take up the study of Christian Science at the time, although I did have some work done for me for a case of goiter, which did not seem to be healed. A few months later a terrible skin trouble attacked me and grew steadily worse. I called for help again. The practitioner asked me to study the Bible with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and to attend church; but I was reluctant to do so. I had never cared about church, and did not want to read. Weeks went by; I was not relieved, but suffered more acutely than I had ever imagined possible. I did not have a moment's peace during the day, and slept badly at night. Finally we had a physician diagnose the case. He pronouced it a certain form of eczema, which according to the medical profession is incurable.
Right then I decided that, as Christian Science promised all, I would place my whole trust in it. Back to the practitioner I went, and little by little began to do as he asked. For a long time there was no apparent change for the better. After several months, however, I began to take stock of myself and found that a number of things about me had changed, and that several minor healings had taken place which I had not even noticed at the time. My disposition was greatly improved. I was not only studying Science and Health in connection with the Bible, going to church and to the lectures, but was even attending Sunday school, which I had thought beneath my years.
