It is with a grateful heart I acknowledge the many blessings that I have received through Christian Science. For the past seven years, and more, it has met my every need, and has brought peace, happiness, and joy into my life. Among the numerous ailments of which I have been healed are colds, influenza, and headaches.
In 1922 I was taken seriously ill with ptomaine poisoning. At the time of this attack I was with my daughter and her husband. I called for a practitioner; but my daughter's husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, was very much alarmed and asked permission to call in a doctor. We consented. After an examination the doctor had a consultation with my daughter and her husband in another room, and his verdict was given in these words: "Your mother has only a few hours to live." The practitioner was in another room. My daughter came to my bedside and asked me if I wished to continue with Christian Science or preferred medical treatment. I said I wanted only Christian Science; so the doctor was dismissed and the practitioner took up the work again. In five days I was able to sit up, and my condition gradually improved.
I believed that I was grateful, for I seemed to be cured; but about a year later I had an attack of the same kind which brought with it a complication of troubles. One of these was a lack of bowel action; others, kidney trouble, swelling of the limbs, and a slight paralytic stroke. The practitioner whom we had had previously was away, so we called another practitioner, who took up the work immediately, giving absent treatment. I began to improve perceptibly, and in seven days was able to go to the practitioner's office. Within three weeks I returned to my daily occupation perfectly well, and there has never been one symptom of a return of these troubles. This healing proved conclusively to me that the year before, when I thought I was healed, there must have been some resentment or ingratitude in my thought which had not been overcome.
