About twelve years ago I turned to Christian Science to gain relief from rheumatism. At that time I was also suffering great mental anguish as the result of a very unhappy experience.
I began reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and attending Christian Science services regularly both Wednesdays and Sundays. Rheumatism yielded to a great extent after two or three treatments. Other physical discords were overcome through my own spiritual growth, some quickly and others more slowly. The rheumatism was completely healed as I continued to clear my thinking of many false beliefs. It was a wonderful relief to be free from headaches from which I had suffered continually, and at times unspeakably, since childhood. Chronic indigestion was overcome after a short time. I have since been able to eat anything without the slightest trouble. I had always been subject to very severe colds, and each winter counted on spending at least several days or longer in bed because of the grippe with its accompanying painful symptoms. I have never spent a day in bed on account of them since becoming interested in Christian Science. Also at this time I was enabled to lay aside eyeglasses which I had worn continually for three or four years and had always expected to wear. It was good to be free from physical ills, but far better to know that there was a way to overcome unhappy traits of disposition and build up a good Christian character.
About two years after my first glimpse of Christian Science I became a member of a branch church and, a little later, of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. I am more grateful for my experience as an active church member than for anything else except class instruction. My experiences in church work have been many and varied, and along with the happy ones have come those which seemed bitter. We have, however, nothing to lose but much to gain as workers in the Father's vineyard. I am particularly grateful for the privilege of teaching in a Christian Science Sunday School.
