It is about fifteen years since I became interested in Christian Science, and each one has his own individual experience. Mine was not one of seeking a cure for sickness, although I found myself quickly healed of chronic constipation and a valvular heart condition.
One day when in the public library I was surprised to find a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and asked the attendant if "that book" was for circulation. Finding that it was, I borrowed it and was so satisfied with its chapter on Prayer that I read it over three times before going farther or looking at the Preface. It was at that time I found I was healed of the two physical conditions, and wondered at it. I continued to read every spare minute I had. Soon I discovered there were two Christian Science churches in the city where we were living. I attended the services, and found there was surely food in them for anyone desiring to know God. I had tried to read the Bible many times, but it was always from a sense of duty, and I would lay it aside unsatisfied. I soon found out about the Lesson-Sermons and bought a copy of Science and Health and the Christian Science Quarterly; and I loved to study the Bible in connection with our textbook. I also learned there were practitioners to go to who could show us and help us prove that we do know God.
There have been such loving experiences since then in overcoming quinsy sore throat (which appeared regularly for five years), rheumatism, headaches, sprains, burns. Gastritis pains have also been relieved; and I do not know what I could have done if I had not had a little understanding of God's ever-presence when we were obliged to change location of residence. I try each day to be more grateful to God for all the good that is mine, and to Mrs. Eddy for her untiring efforts to prove before us, as Christ Jesus did before her, that the truth does heal; also for giving us the periodicals, which are always a help and inspiration. I am grateful for every channel of activity of Christian Science and for the Manual of The Mother Church, which is a guide for all who are trying to put into practice the teachings of Christian Science. The spiritual regeneration is especially wonderful to me, and makes the Bible a daily help.
