Some years ago I took up the study of Christian Science, not because of physical ailments, but for the religious consolation which I needed very much at the time. After a halfhearted investigation I became very much disturbed, and was uncertain as to whether or not I wished to continue the study.
An accident caused a very painful infection in one of my limbs. I asked for treatment from a practitioner who had encouraged me lovingly at intervals. Although the pain did not cease, it became easier to bear. My husband, however, insisted upon my having a doctor. The doctor lanced my limb, and treated it for weeks, but it did not heal. He said he would no doubt have to operate on it, as the bone seemed to be infected. I refused, knowing the outcome in many such cases.
After studying and working many months in Christian Science, I was able to walk again. In the spring of 1918 we moved to British Columbia, Canada. That fall the trouble appeared again and seemed more serious than before. I consulted a doctor, who told me my limb would never again be normal, and that every fall I would have another attack of the trouble; also, I would always have to take medicine. I now turned more whole-heartedly than ever to Christian Science. My husband took me to our home town, where he employed a practitioner to work with me. I was helped, but not healed. I again went to a doctor, who gave me the same promise others had given. Heartsick and disconsolate I limped into a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and there heard a testimony that gave me new heart. I went again to a practitioner; and I shall never forget the joy of that visit, for there my healing was completed. I have had no return of the trouble.
