Testimonies of Healing

It is over eighteen years since this...

From the December 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is over eighteen years since this wonderful truth was presented to me. I did not turn to it for physical healing, but from a sincere desire to know God, because I found myself unable to accept the teachings of the church in which I had been brought up. At the first Christian Science service which I attended I knew I had found the one God whom I had been seeking, who does not send sickness and sorrow to His children, but who heals them of all their diseases.

I was wearing glasses at the time, having been told by an eye specialist that if I did not wear them continually I should be blind in three years. He further stated that the left eye was almost blind, and ordered a special lens for that eye. One evening, while I was reading the testimonies at the end of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, my attention was attracted to one in which the writer described how, through the study of Science and Health, she had been able to lay aside her glasses, which she had worn for sixteen years. The testimony made such an impression upon me that I took my glasses off, and have never needed them since. It is quite clear to me now that the source of the trouble was mental darkness—a belief in the absence of God, good; and the healing resulted when, through the teachings of Christian Science, God was revealed to me, thus restoring my vision.

As I have progressed in the study and understanding of Christian Science, I have gained a greater realization of God as divine Principle, and of man's true relationship to Him, that I had thought possible before; while the Bible though previously not quite a closed book to me, has become my constant guide through the illumination thrown upon it by the Christian Science textbook. My life has been transformed from one of seeming unhappiness and uselessness to one of joyous, useful activity.
