When I first heard of Christian Science I was living in Denver, Colorado. I bought the book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, because some very kind ladies I knew in my business possessed and read "the little book," and I felt I wanted good and popular books in my home, especially for a nephew I was rearing.
All my life had been a struggle to make my way in the world, but without strength. After trying many physicians and specialists, and using many remedies, I was told by a physician in Chicago to drop the drugs I was taking in times of severe pain, as they had weakened the heart. At this time, and after a severe operation in the head, my agony seemed unbearable. A dear neighbor living in the next apartment, seeing my need, persuaded me to go to a Christian Science practitioner.
At the same time my husband was suffering from kidney trouble, from which three members of his family had passed on, and his physician informed me that nothing more could be done for him, saying, "Just let him rest." I made four visits to the Christian Science practitioner and told her of my concern for my husband. She told me to study well the ninety-first psalm, to read it as if it were a letter written to me. My husband was receptive when told of the truth that God alone heals; and he was healed in these four treatments, so that in seventeen years he has scarcely known a sick day. When examined for insurance he was pronounced in perfect health.
