In loving gratitude to the Giver of all good, I should like to mention some of the many beautiful healings that have come to me through the understanding of Christian Science. Having grown up in a very strict orthodox home, I tried to establish my own home on the same ecclesiastical lines, with the result of untold suffering from various diseases. As I had tried all material remedies, Christian Science came as an angel of light to my darkened sense and brought the joy and gladness of instantaneous healing. When the practitioner to whom I applied for help said, "My dear, God is All-power," I saw at once that my suffering of twenty years was caused by the sin of giving power to matter. I determined then to turn from my former ways and to worship God "in spirit and in truth." At once the physical freedom came, and I returned home rejoicing and praising God.
We began at once to read and study the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and to apply the truth to every inharmonious condition arising in a large family. We have had healings of sick headaches, smallpox, whooping cough, malaria in various forms, influenza, broken bones, rheumatism, sprains, and other diseases; and financial lack has also been overcome.
After I had been about four years in Christian Science, we had five cases of typhoid fever at one time. I asked a dear practitioner to give treatments, saying I would do the nursing; and during the six weeks following my heart was filled with songs of rejoicing for the cleansing and purifying work being done. The "last enemy" seemed to present itself in the case of one of the younger children. The fight was continued all night, but I was not alarmed, for God was present; and just at dawn the eyelids closed gently and the little one slept naturally. All came through this trying experience with deeper gratitude to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, through whose labor of love the truth has been revealed to this age. During this testing time our well of water, which had been contaminated with alum, became pure, and has since been a standing witness to the power of Love to heal.
