Testimonies of Healing

"One generation shall praise thy...

From the February 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts." This verse from Psalms arouses in one an intense feeling of gratitude for the countless blessings Christian Science has brought, and a keen desire to declare for the benefit of others some of these "mighty acts." Many have been the occasions of protection and healing during the past year resulting from an ever improving understanding of God; but I feel that one in particular calls for special gratitude, inasmuch as a mother numbers her children among her dearest on earth.

Our son, having just left college and having accepted an appointment in Italy, was seemingly very much tried during the first few days on account of the unusual inharmonious and discordant surroundings. The foreign food was particularly a great trial. Soon the inharmony began to show itself physically, and very quickly the malady took on a serious form. Confronted, as he was, for several days with entire stoppage of the digestive organs, besides symptoms of paralysis in the limbs, the doctor and specialist in attendance (by request of the employer) considered the condition so very critical that a cable was dispatched to us urging the immediate presence of the boy's relatives.

Having had no news for several days, we in London concluded the trouble was over, and so it will be readily understood how great a shock was this cable. Without a moment's delay I telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner, who, after a few reassuring words to quiet my fear, joyously and confidently took up the work at once. Never shall I forget how divine Love aided us that night in every detail of our preparations, enabling my husband and our daughter to leave at six o'clock the following morning; nor how on the journey, made partly by aeroplane and partly by train, every fear, hindrance, and difficulty was divinely overruled, with the result that they arrived at their destination invigorated and refreshed in a remarkably short space of time. Upon arrival they found the boy very much better, and learned subsequently that natural action of both kidneys and intestines had been restored within a few minutes of my call to the practitioner. From this point progress was very rapid, and within three days his condition was sufficiently normal for them all to be arranging for the homeward journey.
