Christian Science has so completely changed my life and way of thinking that I may truly say it is as if I had been born again. From the time I was a child of eleven years I had suffered from a most severe form of bowel trouble. Everything that the best doctors could do was done for me, but each new and different treatment only brought more suffering. Finally, four major surgical operations were submitted to, the entire large bowel, or colon, and several inches of the small bowels being removed. This resulted in paralysis of the bowels, and the food I ate caused untold suffering. The doctors then said they had done all they could for me, and in this hopeless and helpless condition Christian Science was presented to me by a very dear friend.
The healing came slowly, and many times I seemed to walk in darkness, but each step of the way taught me to have more patience and to love God more; for Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 410): "Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger. The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love." I am so grateful to have learned that the material laws laid upon me were never God's laws, for in Science and Health we are told (pp. 380, 381), "Every law of matter or the body, supposed to govern man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God." I am also grateful for the realization that God's idea was never touched, never lost anything, but is always whole and perfect. One by one, these false and painful conditions have been overcome by the application of Christian Science, and there seem no words with which to express my deep gratitude for all that has been done and is being done for me, and for all mankind, to-day, through the healing ministry of this revealed Science of Being. My gratitude, I know, can be expressed only by living Christian Science each day so that others may see the light burning and be drawn to it.— Portland, Oregon.
