Christian Science was brought to me at a time when I was in deep distress; when everything seemed dark and there was little hope of light. I needed help mentally, physically, and financially. Mentally, I suffered from a sense of grief and bereavement which completely overwhelmed me, occasioned by the passing on of my dear mother. Physically, I was bound by so-called material laws of health, my physician having told me that over activity after childbirth would require medical attention for a long time. Financially, heavy losses in things material seemed my portion.
About this time a new neighbor came among us, and I at once sensed something unusual about her. I had said very little about my troubles to anyone, believing that no good comes of voicing one's difficulties to friends or acquaintances; that human sympathy and hearing of similar cases of misfortune are not uplifting, and could never be instrumental in leading one's thoughts into new channels. My new neighbor's compassion and right thinking so appealed to me, however, that one day I told her all my troubles. She said she knew Christian Science could help me, and told me of some beautiful healings which she had experienced. After a conversation lasting about twenty minutes much error was uncovered, and I decided then and there that I would give Christian Science a fair trial; which I did. Through reading the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, and the Christian Science literature, and being willing and obedient in following the guidance of Truth, I was soon healed of all three of the conditions mentioned above.
The mental regeneration experienced at that time enabled me later to help two members of my family who were confined in sanitariums, one suffering from a severe case of neurasthenia, the other from what a specialist diagnosed as puerperal melancholia. Both were prostrated mentally and physically until Christian Science work was begun. They improved immediately, and were both beautifully and permanently healed.
